Why make your own latex clothing?
Latex clothing is very expensive. Even too expensive for some people to buy. So, why not just make your own latex clothes yourself? It is fun to do and easier than you think!
Anyone can make latex clothes, even if you're not that creative or if you have two left hands or if you've never made clothes before!
You will no longer meet someone at a party in exactly the same nice dress or shirt! From now on you can make your own latex clothes yourself. Your size, your design, your color, your taste and your own style! And with this book you will learn the techniques to do so successfully.
And if you didn't know... you glue latex with special latex glue... so you don't need a sewing machine, yeah!
When writing a book, it is always difficult to meet the needs of all readers. But we have tried to cover as much as possible, and to explain and support it with photos and pictures. What is very logical for one person is very complicated for another.
What's in the book?
- 13 exercises (straight seams, curves, darts, figure seams, closures, straps/belts, zippers, ruffles, bows, trims, appliqués, piping and repairs).
- Tips for how to draw basic patterns yourself for a skirt, the upper body, leggings and a circle skirt. And of course tips on how you can easily adjust various patterns yourself.
- 14 patterns, in case you don't feel like drawing your own patterns. You only have to make them to your own size, and you will of course learn that in this book. Some patterns come in multiple sizes, so extra handy! The patterns in the book are for a: skirt, top, dress, tank top, cardigan, fingerless glove, women's thong, men's briefs, men's boxers, bralette, bra, a baseball cap, underbust corset and finally the pattern of the very popular mask, also called a hood.
- And of course lots of extra tips! How to place sleeves, how to make piping, how to make puff sleeves, how to create clothes made of datex, how to put on, clean and maintain latex clothing and much more.
- In addition, we discuss frequently asked quesons and therefore also what can go wrong.
- We also highlight the commercial side, because you may want to start your own company selling your latex clothing, such as how do you calculate the sales price of your self-made latex clothing, how and where can you sell the clothing, and how do you work with models and photographers… and more!
- And finally more than 250 ideas for finishes for sleeves, necklines, tops, dresses, skirts, etc.
- Extra! At the back of the book there are extra copies of 9 patterns so you can cut them out of the book.
The book can only be purchased on Amazon, click here for Amazon.
About the author, Amber Reijmers
Years ago, Amber couldn't find suitable latex clothing for herself. Most latex clothing is made for a 'standard' body (if there is one). If you are a size more or less, or if you are active as a bodybuilder, you cannot find well-fitting latex clothing.
In the photo you can see one of the very first creations! It may seem like a lot. But looks can be deceiving! Because the latex was partly glued with duct tape, Bisonkit, instant glue, staples and much more to keep everything together. Since she had no idea how to make clothes, she didn't know how a sleeve and shoulder worked together. She had solved that very 'smartly'.... namely, just no shoulder! The sleeve therefore only became a loose tunnel of latex. Then she put a few net curtains in there (so they were just loose in the 'sleeve').
The large hips were inflatable wings that children could have learned to swim with. They were on a belt, and the latex hung over it and was secured with staples, and in between there were lace curtains again. The black cord was an old lace from a skate. And then a wig, plastic jewelry and tadaaa... party time!
At the first party, this outfit was a great success! And at the same time, it was the starting place for orders and latex repairs. Hence the name 'LatexRepair' as a company name. Then she started making and repairing a lot of latex clothing and objects.
Since 1999, she has been providing technical latex advice and workshops worldwide to students, consumers, fashion schools, shops, fashion designers, textile designers, artists, interior architects and stylists and more. Companies from the medical sector to the automotive, aerodynamics and robotics industry also know where to find her.
In addition, she specialized in making latex sheets, which are large pieces of latex, made of poured liquid latex. Worldwide, there are only a few people who can professionally make latex sheets themselves. There is no painting on existing latex. A very labor-intensive process, but always with beautiful and sometimes fun unexpected results.
